Mt Laurel, NJ, 12/5/2017 —The Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification (ABSNC), is pleased to announce the Orthopaedic Nurses Certification Board (ONCB) has been granted reaccreditation for the Orthopaedic Nurse Certified (ONC) and Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioner Certified (ONP-C) programs.
ONCB was incorporated in 1986 and first offered the ONC examination in 1988. It remains the only certifier of orthopaedic registered nurses in the United States. The ONP-C examination was launched in 2006 as a value-added program for orthopaedic nurse practitioners. ONCB has over 7200 certificants.
“ONCB members recognize the value of ABSNC accreditation in demonstrating the rigor of the ONC and ONP-C programs,” stated Executive Director Dottie Roberts, EdD, MSN, MACI, RN, OCNS-C, CMSRN, CNE. “Nurses who hold the ONCB credentials have demonstrated their specialty knowledge and their commitment to lifelong learning to help ensure positive patient outcomes.”
ABSNC accreditation is a peer-reviewed mechanism that allows nursing certifying organizations to obtain program accreditation by demonstrating compliance with the highest quality standards in the industry. To maintain accreditation, programs must exhibit continuing adherence to the 18 standards set forth. “ABSNC Accreditation represents a recognized standard in certification testing and indicates that the credential meets or exceed legal and regulatory guidelines,” said Felicia Lembesis, CAE, Executive Director.
The mission of ABSNC is to recognize quality specialty nursing and associated non-RN certification programs through accreditation. It is the only accrediting body specifically for nursing certification. ABSNC currently accredits more than 60 certification programs from 20 specialty nursing certification organizations. The accreditation standards offered by ABSNC include Examination-Based Certification Programs, Portfolio Assessment Certification Programs, and Assessment-Based Certificate Programs.
